Writing Reflection
Just like the end of a good James Bond movie where he saves the world from certain disaster. Mrs. Manugo helps to save my writing from the same fate with her expert guidance and advice. Mission accomplished Mrs. M. concerning my style, grammatical conventions and the documentation of outside sources. Like Bond, my writing is now smooth with style and finesse.
I believe style is the area of greatest growth and development concerning my writing. In the beginning of the year, I was so worried about spelling and grammar errors that my style suffered. Mrs. Manugo helped me develop a sense of style by providing excellent information that guided my writing process. My literary analysis of Khaled Hosseini’s novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, demonstrates my growth over the school year. I used a variety of sentences structures, carefully avoided the dreaded “be-verbs,” and intertwined technical terminology.
One of my most difficult writing experiences in English 112 had to be the piece entitled “Universal Preschool is Universally Beneficial.” My rough draft was a mess because I misunderstood the purpose of the paper and the intended audience. I almost threw in the towel and started a new paper on a totally different topic, but decided to stay committed to this subject matter. It was difficult to find good and reliable sources and had to search through several databases. This piece may not be my most creative work, but it the one I am most proud of because I refused to give up the search for reliable sources.
Grammatical conventions are like James Bond’s arch enemy to my writing. My entire academic life I have still struggled with spelling and grammar. This semester, I have concentrated on perfecting verb tense. Still trips me up at times, but there is improvement throughout my writing.
I am armed and ready to take action at James Madison University. I have conquered style, grammatical conventions, and the documentation of outside sources just like my man James conquers the world’s problems. I am looking forward to my next big adventure and will succeed thanks to my Mrs. M.
